CHOCOLATE SCENTED PERFUME

chocolate scented perfume
With Easter just days away and chocolate bunnies and eggs springing up everywhere, it started me thinking about some of the really great chocolate scented perfumes out there. If you are a chocoholic like I am, these fragrant delights are worth trying and are guaranteed to deliver a satisfying chocolate rush without the calories.

Any list of noteworthy chocolate perfumes should begin with Angel by Thierry Mugler since it’s not only the most successful chocolate based fragrance, it’s also the one that put chocolate notes on the perfume map.Angel is a love it or hate it fragrance for many people. This fruity/floral/patchouli masterpiece isn’t at all subtle. It’s a fragrance of contrasts; a lightening bolt mixture of sweet berries, mellon, peach, white flowers, warm patchouli, caramel, honey, cotton candy, musk and a hint of vanilla and milk chocolate.

If you love chocolate and are open to an interesting twist on it, Angel is worth having in your fragrance arsenal.

Also not to be missed is PG04 Musc Maori by Parfumerie Generale. Like all Parfumerie Generale fragrances the quality is unquestionably good and this is a completely different take on chocolate. It  smells like the milk left over from eating a bowl of Cocoa Puffs with a spoonful of Nesquik added. Although this sounds totally gross and bizarre, it’s actually a really warm and comforting aroma.

PG04 Musc Maori is sure to appeal to the die hard gourmand perfume lovers out there because it really is like wearing chocolate, along with some coffee, vanilla and tonka bean. There’s also some woody notes and musk that make it so unique. A clear chocolate winner in my book.

Another fantastic scent is Chocolate Greedy by Montale. This one truly pushes the envelope and is about as gourmand as they get. Chocolate Greedy is a chocolate bomb that lasts literally for days. It’s an ultra realistic buttery and rich milk chocolate with marshmallow undertones sure to kill any unsatisfied chocolate cravings.

There is also some coffee, vanilla, tonka bean, bitter orange and dried fruits but they are minor players. Whether it is totally wearable is debatable because it could literally suffocate if applied too liberally.

Exercise extreme caution when spraying or this scent could be wearing you rather than the other way around.

Be prepared to find people around you with baffled expressions while wearing this!

If you enjoyed Aquolina’s Pink Sugar and you like chocolate, then you are sure to enjoy Chocolovers by Aquolina. Chocolovers features notes of bergamot, lemon, orange, lily of the valley, coriander, hazelnut, vanilla, malt and musk.

A blast of sweet citrus at the opening quickly fades, leaving behind just a hint of orange. Eventually the scent turns into something smelling remarkably like Tootsie Rolls.

How a scent containing no chocolate notes can smell so chocolatey is a mystery to me. Lovers of Nutella will especially appreciate this one since hazelnut is a major player. The coriander, musk and vanilla are also very present.

Sadly, it has been discontinued but still can be found on eBay and Amazon.

Amour de Cacao by Comptoir Sud Pacifique is another brilliant interpretation of chocolate. It is the most like  Chocolate Greedy in my opinion, though much less intense. Creamy coconut is layered with suntan lotion scents for a fragrance that is rich, creamy and powdery. Notes listed are orange zest, cacao bean and vanilla bean, though I definitely smell coconut.

It’s the chocolate equivalent of Beach by Bobbi Brown. For some reason smelling this makes me extremely hungry.

Vanilla lovers will also enjoy Vanille Extreme also by Comptoir Sun Pacifique which features creamy vanilla with an island vibe.

Not to be forgotten are some comforting chocolate scents from Demeter Fragrance Library. They carry a number of chocolate fragrances, including Dark Chocolate, Chocolate Covered Cherries, Devil’s Food and Brownie, but my favorite hands down is Chocolate Chip Cookie. A combination of light and dark chocolate, freshly baked but not too doughy, it’s a wearable version of the Toll House cookie.

The fragrance stays the same from initial spritz to dry down. Two spritzes is all you need to experience this comforting scent for a couple of hours.

And need I mention again, NO CALORIES 🙂

Do you like choco-fragrances? Have I left any good ones off?

    Hi 🙂

Beautiful site, it actually made me hungry just reading your post.

Usually these types of products claiming to smell like chocolate don’t smell like chocolate at all. Its very hard to find one that actually smells good, I have really bad luck with shower gels so I will definitely try these perfumes the next time shopping.

    Thanks for the advice!
