WHY I LOVE ROLLERBALL PERFUME AND 5 REASONS WHY YOU WILL TOO

Rollerball perfumes

If you are one of the unenlightened few who are still in the dark about the rollerball perfume trend then you really should read this.

There comes a time in every perfumista’s life when you have to face a harsh reality. You’re running out of space for your ever-growing perfume bottle collection. Unless you happen to be one of the .001% who is blessed with an entire closet to house your lovelies, it’s time to rethink how you purchase your fragrance.

This is where rollerballs come in. Where the typical perfume bottle contains either 1.7 or 3.4 fluid ounces of perfume, rollerballs usually contain anywhere from .25 to 1.0 fluid ounce. Better still is that they come in skinny fun-size bottles that take up hardly any space and are a breeze to pop into any bag.

What’s also nice about rollerballs is that they’re usually adorned in packaging that references the full-size perfume version. And, as rollerballs have become an increasingly popular buying choice, more and more popular fragrances are available in the rollerball option. A recent online check at Sephora revealed close to 200 rollerball options, from designer scents to niche fragrances. Offered in the selection are rollerball wardrobes which allow you sample a choice of different scents, to be worn either on their own or blended together.

Here is why I personally adore rollerball perfume:

1) Great for Traveling

The petite size of rollerballs ensures that if you’re traveling with carry on you won’t have to battle with TSA to get them through airport security. I confess to forgetting to put them in my quart-size baggie a couple of times and still got through security without a hitch. I definitely don’t recommend trying to transport your rollerball on the down-low btw but I’ve been pulled aside for even more innocuous things like toothpaste and shampoo. If you’ve ever packed perfume into a checked bag you probably already know that packing a full bottle of perfume can result in a total mess. The bottle may break or develop a leakage and wreck your clothes. This has happened to me even when I carefully wrapped the bottle in plastic or so I thought. Weird things happen while up in the air which probably has a lot to do with the air pressure. When it comes to perfume and travel, small is beautiful.

2) No Temptation to Overspray

We’ve all been there. You’re rushing to get out the door and while adding a little spritz of your beloved scent you hit the trigger too hard. Suddenly you are literally swimming in it and panic sets in. Never a problem with rollerballs.   It’s the tiny ball at the tip of the cylindrical glass container that makes for precise application. A little dab here and there, in the pulse points and heat generating body areas and you are good to go.

3) Easier to Layer Different Scents

If you are opposed to having just one scent option, you can combine fragrances to get a unique smell just right for you. This is exactly what layering does and it is much easier to get it right when making use of rollerballs.  When layering different scents with a rollerball you have the desired control of how much is applied on top of the previous scent. Rollerballs take the math out of the process which is always a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

4) Cheaper Than Bottles of Perfume.

Most rollerballs cost less than $30 and some even run under $20. Needless to say, rollerballs are a small fraction of the price of a bottle of perfume. Now who doesn’t like adorable and affordable? Another plus is that with the rollerballs you can have as many fragrances as desired without feeling guilty of being careless with money. You’ll never have to deal with perfume regret which is what happens when you invest in a full bottle that didn’t quite live up to the expectations you had for the two of you when you made your purchase. No harm no foul if you end up not loving a rollerball.

5) Easy to Do Touch Ups in Stealth Mode

Rollerballs can be applied discreetly when in public.  I’ve become somewhat of a master at this and as far as I know I’ve never been caught in the act. The scents are applied precisely to pulse points so you can easily make use of your rollerballs in the office, after showering at the gym or while out for dinner. Quick and easy. Rollerballs have saved me from feeling disgustingly grungy on long flights many a time.  And with flying being what it is these days anything that guarantees a pick me up is fine by me.

Lastly, rollerballs make great and affordable gifts.  If you’re not quite sure of the recipient’s taste in fragrance, rollerball wardrobe sets are a brilliant and very fun option.  I recently revealed one of my newer discoveries, Pinrose Perfumes, who sell a mix and match rollerball wardrobe which you can learn more about here. They carry an eclectic selection of 10 different fragrance selections in the teeniest of rollerballs I’ve come across with something for (almost) everyone.

    Hi Erica,

I really love perfume, but yes just like you said I am running out of room. Glad to know it’s not just me.
The price of the roller ball makes it easy to buy several “testers” and see if you enjoy wearing the fragrance before purchasing a whole bottle of designer perfume which would be $100+
