If you’re looking for a refreshing citrusy scent to combat the dog days of summer you need to check out Versace Eros Pour Femme. Unlike all too many lemony perfumes which end up making you feel like you’re wearing Mr. Clean, this is a juicy, cool and crisp lemony delight that reminds me of a fresh glass of lemonade.
Eros Pour Femme was launched by Versace in 2015 as an addition to the popular men’s Eros from 2012. Perfumers Alberto Morillas, Oliver Crisp and Nathalie Lorson worked together to create this delightful composition. The perfume opens with Sicilian lemon, Calabrian bergamot, and pomegranate accords, with a heart of lemon, sambac jasmine absolute and peony. The woody dry down incorporates sandalwood, ambrox and musk.
I find this an uplifting fragrance that manages to be interesting and easy going, striking the perfect balance between fresh/fruity and woody/musky. I love the sharp citrus punch at the beginning which is soon followed by a classy, discreet jasmine before warming up. I’m still wondering where the pomegranate and peony are lurking On my skin this scent is never cloying and has a moderate longevity.
Eros Pour Femme isn’t excessively sweet which would have been a deal breaker for me. The sandalwood used here reminds me a little of the sandalwood from Samsara and is quite nice.
According to Donatella Versace: “Eros is the God of love and the goal of the Eros Pour Femme campaign was to present that Eros was seduced and to suggest the strength of a woman”. I actually don’t consider this a sexy or seductive scent at all so I found this to be puzzling. I find it to be a happy, carefree and barely there fragrance which isn’t what I equate with a seductress.
The fragrance bottle of Eros Pour Femme is rounded and embellished with a prominent relief Medusa symbol on the central part of the bottle and the stopper. Despite the inconsistency of the story of Medusa and the smell of this glorious juice, the bottle is gorgeous.
