Last week-end I was fortunate to be able to attend an event in downtown New York City. It was sponsored by Sniffapalooza, an event-based group of perfume junkies, and included a fragrance blending and layering presentation by Mark Crames, CEO of Demeter Fragrance Library.
Knowing very little about the Demeter brand, I arrived with an open mind and a hopeful heart. I’m pleased to report, I wasn’t disappointed!
A few words about Demeter…Demeter has been around over 20 years and has created almost 300 different fragrances. Their fragrances each have a very unique scent and are made up of single notes. Some are pretty easy to figure out from the name, such as Lotus Flower, Grass, Dark Chocolate and Dirt (yes, that really is the name!)
I wish I could have sampled them all, but even after a couple of coffee bean refreshers, I eventually had to call it quits. My favorites ended up being Salt Air (vacation anyone?), Bulgarian Rose (definitely not your grandmother’s rose scent), Wet Garden (fresh, crisp and slightly earthy) and Paperback (just like it sounds). Others I didn’t try but wanted to just for the eeww factor were Glue, Hay and Funeral Home (which I’ve heard is a white flower bouquet with mahogany).
What I really love about this brand is that they encourage you to select your favorite scents…then combine, experiment and blend.
VOILA…YOUR OWN SIGNATURE SCENT 🙂
Until the next time,
