Of course it was mostly all about the dress, the hair and make-up and that spectacular looking cake, but what about the wedding day perfume? I’m sure I’m not the only one who wondered what Meghan Markle wore on her much anticipated royal wedding day. It’s a known fact that she adores fragrance and counts Oribe’s Côte de Azur and Jo Malone Wild Bluebell among her favorites. Did she end up opting for the comfort of one of her signature scents or decide to tie the knot wearing a completely unique wedding day perfume?
The word out is that she decided to change it up with a royal variation on Bergmotto di Positano by Floris London. It’s possible she elected to take a leaf out of Queen Elizabeth’s book, who is said to have worn White Rose by Floris on her big day. Floris London is after all the appointed perfumer to Her Majesty the Queen and has been crafting perfumes that have been royally approved since 1730. In addition to creating the wedding day scent for Queen Elizabeth II, Floris London has created a custom-made scent every year for her birthday as well as other noteworthy events.
The original Bergamotto di Positano perfume was inspired by the romantic story of Mary Floris and her husband, who left the small fishing village of Positano in Italy to get married in England. The perfume is said to be unisex and contains notes of bergamot, ginger, green tea and orange flower. Sadly the fragrance is part of the brand’s private collection so mere plebs like us will not be able to get our noses anywhere near it.
I’m imagining it to smell warm and citrusy which would be very fitting for this former California girl turned royalty, the scent of sun and happiness. I hope Prince Harry spritzed a little on himself too for good luck ?
By the way, the floral bouquet which Meghan carried on their special day included flowers reportedly hand-picked by Prince Harry the day before the wedding. Along with spring blooms of sweet peas, lily of the valley and jasmine, the bouquet included Forget-Me-Nots, which were his mother’s favorite flower. The couple specifically chose them to be included to honor the memory of the late princess who passed so tragically at age 36 – the same age as Meghan on her wedding day.
The wedding-day fragrance worn by Princess Harry’s mum, Princess Diana, was Quelques Fleurs by Houbigant Paris. Rumor has it that she accidentally spilled few drops on her dress prior to the ceremony and was forced to brave the long walk down the aisle of Westminster hoping no one would notice the tiny stain.
Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, also went outside the box and married into the monarchy wearing White Gardenia Petals by Illuminum. I’ve had the pleasure of smelling this delicate and refined perfume. It’s very royal wedding-worthy and contains a lovely trifecta of jasmine, lily of the valley and ylang-ylang with a woody amber dry-down . I hope Prince William approved?
Did you wear a signature scent for your wedding day or did you choose a new perfume just for the occasion? If you haven’t walked down the aisle yet, which perfume do you think you’ll wear?
Until the next time,
,
How interesting i watched the royal wedding and perfume didn’t even cross my mind!
However reading that Wild Bluebell is one of her favourites makes me really happy, it happens to be one of my favourite from Jo Malone too! (I have 14 at home)
I haven’t really thought about what i would wear walking down the isle but if i was to wed tomorrow i most likely would be wearing a mix of Wild Bluebell and Wood Sage and Sea Salt from Jo Malone!
Hey Kobe,
Not only is Wild Bluebell one of the now Dutchess of Sussex’s favorite scents, she is said to also adore Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Both are also up my alley.
There’s no question that Jo Malone makes some really incredible colognes and I love layering them, either with others in their collection or with some of my other fragrances. Something tells me you might be into layering too;)
Cheers,
Erica
